As an African-American family, they often faced rejection on the fair circuit. In the show arena, some judges passed them by altogether. Despite all this, they were still determined to succeed. Whenever Ray and his siblings wanted to throw in the towel, their father would say simply, “back up the truck” reminding them to rise above racism and intimidation tactics. Ray hopes to inspire others to not let obstacles deter their success.
